Data & attributions

Every hill in this app — its name, height, summit location and list memberships (Munro, Corbett, Graham, Wainwright, Nuttall) — comes from the Database of British and Irish Hills, compiled and maintained by Graham Jackson, Chris Crocker, John Barnard, Simon Edwardes, George Gradwell, Jim Bloomer, Dave Marshall and Bernie Hughes.

Without their work this app would not exist. The DoBIH is a volunteer project; you can support it here.

Hill records are searchable at hill-bagging.co.uk, the DoBIH's own site. FindMyHill shows a subset of the database and adds its own suitability scores; any error in a score is ours, not theirs.

All weather forecasts — temperature, wind, rainfall, cloud cover, visibility, snow depth and sunrise/sunset times — come from Open-Meteo, which aggregates national weather service models including those of the Met Office and ECMWF.

Place and postcode search also uses the Open-Meteo Geocoding API. Suitability scores are calculated by FindMyHill from this forecast data; Open-Meteo does not produce or endorse them.

Many of the hill photographs come from Geograph Britain and Ireland, a project to photograph every grid square of the British Isles. Each photograph is credited to its own photographer on the hill's page, with a link to the original and to that photo's licence.

Geograph contributors choose their own licence, so we only use photos released under terms that permit commercial reuse, and we record the licence for each one individually. Geograph is a volunteer project run by a charitable trust; you can support it here.

Other hill photographs come from Wikimedia Commons, matched to each summit via Wikidata. As with Geograph, the photographer, the licence and a link to the original file are shown on the hill's page.

Photos are stored at a reduced size for performance. Where a photo is licensed share-alike, that resized copy is offered under the same licence as the original — the credit on each hill page links to the exact licence terms.

The topographic map tiles showing contours and terrain are rendered by OpenTopoMap from OpenStreetMap data.
